3.Pickle, Sauce and Ketchup Making:
Pickle making is one of the convenient and simple occupations that can be done as a household business in small investment. In the village, we witnessed the bitter truth that the actual growers of the vegetables get only nominal rate with the brokers taking the lion’s share of the profit and the farmers are always deprived of their deserved income. Moreover, the price of the vegetables is always unstable and vulnerable depending upon the market supply. To enable the farmers to receive the good income out of their labour, Laxmi Pratisthan conceived an idea where the grown vegetables can be conserved into the glass container in form of pickle and sauce. The training will be provided to make the pickle and sauce meeting the required standards. Laxmi Pratisthan will facilitate for the marketing of the products.

4.Poultry farming:

Until now, the chicken rearing in the villages has been limited to keeping in scanty numbers in their own home and is managed under the scavenging system. Very little time, money and attention has been spent in rearing them which has not provided optimum benefits to the farmers of the community.

Contrarily, the consumers’ demand for the chicken is increasing day by day and the need for increasing the production is becoming apparent. In this context, the villagers also can equally take benefits by rearing the chickens in an organized and systematic way. The farmers will be encouraged and trained for 15 days by the efficient and well trained specialists. The training will be given to 100 women forming 4 groups each consisting 25. Consequently, they will be able to run their own poultry farms according to their capacity and interests.

3. Goat Rearing:

Small ruminants (especially goats) are essential components of the mixed farming systems in the hills of Nepal, and are found in all parts of country. They are mainly reared in small numbers for meat during the cultural occasions or as an asset to utilize to them in the financial crisis. Possessing the suitable land and environmental conditions in most parts of the country, we are forced to import the goats and sheep from the neighbouring countries in billions of rupees annually. This scenario has revealed the enormous potential in goat rearing in order to meet the increasing demand of the consumers. Moreover, the hilly regions of Nepal are ideal location for rearing the goats which can be a good source of income to the people living in the area. The economical value of sheep and goats is an important factor in their popularity with smallholder farmers. The financial investment required for their husbandry is small, and capital investment for the purchase of animals, equipment, and buildings is low. Most of the equipment and buildings can be constructed from locally available raw materials, so that even a poor farmer can initiate farming. The animals begin to produce at about 1-1 ½ years of age, and goats being prolific, produce many offspring per year. Due to the high turnover, they give a good return per unit of capital invested, and so provide an economically profitable enterprise.

For this purpose, Laxmi Pratisthan will provide the systematic goat rearing training to the villagers by forming 2 groups each consisting 25 people.

4.Pig Husbandry:

Pig husbandry and pork production in Nepal is at an early stage of development compared to other livestock systems. Traditionally, pigs have been associated with so called low castes groups, and so these animals have been neglected in improvement programmes. Religious prejudice has also imposed restrictions. Pigs are reared on a poor plane of nutrition with an indiscriminate breeding pattern and in poor housing. Consequently, the animals grow at a slow rate and the meat is of poor quality. As only certain groups of people rear the pig, its production does not assimilate well with the whole farming system.

However, for the ethnic groups such as Tamang. Kami and Damai living in Kavre, the black pig has religious and social significance, particularly at sacrificial ceremonies. Moreover, the food culture of people has been significantly changed and, thus, the numbers of pork consumers are ever increasing.

The traditional pig farming system of the community like scavenging system where of the opportunity for eating contaminated food and picking up disease is very high among pigs and under intensive system, they are prone to attract diseases associated with poor sanitation and crowded accommodation which will be changed into the scientific intensive system. The project initially plans to run by helping 50 people by forming 2 groups each consisting 25 person in order to provide them systematic and improved pig husbandry training. Upon the completion of training, the people will be able to run their own pig husbandry business in systematic way.
